Can a human heart be replaced by an artificial heart?
Study on Problems Associated with Artificial Hearts
The artificial heart question was asked by a young doctor way back in 1882 through a novel, that too in the erstwhile city of Madras, now known as Chennai! The young doctor was none other than Ronald Ross, who won the Nobel prize for his monumental work on malaria.
By the early 1960s, conquering space and heart were the “dare devil sciences to be conquered”. While space was conquered in a decade, the heart was not! Till date there is no perfect artificial heart. In our lab, we study problems associated with artificial hearts like Stroke, Size, Implantation, Cost, etc.
